Our Partners

Our Partners

Our Partners are very important to us. By ourselves the amount we can achieve is quite limited. In partnership with organisations such as Citylinks, CARISMA and The Message and by getting involved in and supporting their initiatives, we can help to regenerate and improve the communities in which we live and work.

This page simply outlines the basic information about our main partners, how we can contact them or obtain further information about them and their activities. If you have Admin access to the site, you can edit these records directly using the button displayed.

CARISMA

CARISMA is a Christian led organisation dedicated to the regeneration of the community in the South Manchester area, particularly Moss Side and Longsight. CARISMA are co-ordinating the Street Pastors project in the Moss Side, Longsight and Gorton areas and are also the main organising body behind the Peace Week festival each Spring.

CARISMA operate from the SaltShaker at 16 Bedwell Close in Moss Side.

CityLinks

City Links promotes unity between churches, and supports prayer and action in cities around the UK and the world.

CityLinks run Redeeming the Arts and Redeeming our Communities, and provide consultancy on regional unity and prayer initiatives. They produce the monthly Manchester Prayer Bulletin and the Redeeming Our Communities Prayer Update, which goes out across the North West & beyond.

Redeeming Our Communities is an exciting initiative in the North West to regenerate and reclaim communities through the power of prayer focussing on the Police and the reduction of crime. The launch of this initiative at the Reebok Stadium in 2004 was attended by Christians from all over the NorthWest, including a considerable number of CPA members.

GMP

GMP is the largest Police force in the NorthWest of England with some 12,500 Police Officers and civilian staff covering the Greater Manchester conurbation.

Manchester is one of the largest cities in the UK and is a challenging region to police. Guns, drugs, gangs and inner-city deprivation are a major feature of the problems faced by communities and Police Officers in most large cities and Manchester is no different in this respect. It is no coincidence that many of the projects and initiatives supported by the CPA in Manchester are Christian-led and community-focused, but aimed at reducing crime and rebuilding communities ravaged by these problems.

GMCPA members are all either current or retired employees of GMP, or Christians associated with GMP in other ways.

CPA

The Christian Police Association grew out of work by Catherine Gurney in the late 19th Century. The CPA provides a ministry to today's Police service and aims to provide a fellowship for Christians within the each Force in the UK.

Some people think that being a Christian and a Police Officer are incompatible. This normally arises from the misconception that Christians in the Police Service would have to compromise their faith, but this is not so. We believe that by maintaining a strong relationship with God, we can overcome temptation and having fellowship with other believers doing the same job is a means to that end.

The CPA also supports initiatives that aim to spread the Christian message wider amongst our local communities, and also supports community-led initiatives which aim to reduce crime and to regenerate and revitalise our local communities.

The Message

The Message Trust aims to bring Christianity to the youth of Manchester through a number of dynamic and exciting initiatives, including the Eden Bus project, Reflex, The Big Deal and others. They take God's message out into the community, onto the streets and into prisons.

There are now 9 Eden Youth Projects and a number of Eden Busses that operate as mobile youth centres. The Big Deal brings together churches, the community, business interests and public services, all with the aim of improving life in our communities. Besides these, The Message has several bands (LZ7 and Blush) taking the message out into schools and into prisons in music, and song, and they also operate a number of training initiatives (Reflex, Genetik and VideoSchool).

Mothers Against Violence

Mothers Against Violence was started by Patsie McKie and other others who had lost family members to gun and/or gang-related violence in the Manchester area. They aim to promote peace and a reduction of violence in our communities, particularly in Moss Side and Longsight.

Street Pastors

Street Pastors are now operating in numerous cities around the UK and in 3 areas of Manchester (Longsight, Gorton and Moss Side). They take the word of God out onto the streets, reaching sections of the community that are otherwise very hard to reach. Street Pastors originated in Brixton by the Ascension Trust and Revd Les isaacs and the scheme has now even gone international with Street Pastors having reached parts of the West Indies.

Peace Alliance

The Peace Alliance was started by Nims Obunge in Haringey and operates principally within London but has close links with, for example, CARISMA. The London Peace Week organised by the Alliance was the spark that ignited the Manchester Peace Week organised by CARISMA. Their accent is on reducing crime and improving life within the community through links with local faith, cummunity and voluntary organisations.

Evangellical Alliance

The Evangelical Alliance was founded in 1846 and is the oldest alliance of evangelical Christians in the world.

The Alliance is an umbrella group representing one million evangelical Christians in the UK and is made up of member churches drawn from over 30 different denominations, organisations and individuals. In its formative years the Alliance particularly stood for the victims of religious persecution and enabled evangelicals from different denominations to work together.

As part of a movement ‘uniting to change society’ the Alliance promotes unity and truth, acts as an evangelical voice to the state, society and the wider church, and works collaboratively with Alliance members and other evangelicals, to bring about social and spiritual transformation within society.
